The cradle of french history
A UNESCO World Heritage site since November 2000, the Val de Loire is a lesson in living history.
Chenonceau, Amboise, Chambord, Azay-le-Rideau, Villandry…
Each room of the various chateaux, erected in honor of the muses of our Kings, Dukes and Counts, reveals the secrets of the most intriguing figures - Catherine de Médicis, François 1st, Henry IV, Diane de Poitiers, Agnès Sorel…who will be the heroes of your excursions.
The village of SACHE is home to the residence of Balzac where you can still be moved at the sight of the inkstand on which “Le Lys dans la Vallée” was written; you’ll also find the works of Alexander Calder on exhibit in the main square.
The ST MARTIN basilica attests to the history of the Bishop of Tours, whose donkey taught man how to prune the grapevines.
A visit of PIERRE ET LUMIERE where you’re invited to descend into the depths of a cave to follow a path dotted with the Val de Loire’s most unusual monuments, cut from Tuffeau stone. During a private workshop, the historical secrets and codes of medieval builders, known as the “Compagnons du devoir” in French, will be revealed to you. An adventure rich in knowledge and mystery…
And finally get back out into the fresh air and see the lively colors of Chaumont-sur-Loire’s Garden Festival, where student artists from around the world express themselves in landscape art, based on the theme of gardens of the future.
It’s an impressive space where art rubs elbows with technology putting astounding nocturnal paintings in the spotlight.
