River Cruising: Discover France's little-known highlights

Always looking for the best and most extraordinary ways to discover France, the Wine Tour In France team spotted for you this week a unique way to enjoy stunning landscapes, delicious food & wine and memorable time with your beloved ones: Enjoy the splendor of France as you float along its criss-crossing waterways!

Past fields of blazing sunflowers, hilltop châteaux and verdant vineyards... Take a voyage of discovery, all from the comfort of a péniche-hôtel.

After a research amongst our partners, we found out that Belmond was offering to cruise the canals of 7 superb French regions. You could thus uncover the defining aspects of regions from Provence to Côtes du Rhône, and get a true sense of what the country is all about.

Typical day on board of a Péniche

To picture you better what a holiday along the rivers would look like, here is a glimpse of a typical day on board:

Every night the péniche-hôtel berths in a new location. A gourmet dinner is served on board before settling down to sleep, comforted by the sound of the lapping waters.

Come morning the mist rises to reveal the sun as the craft slips its moorings. The barge continues on its way through picturesque locks and riverbanks lined with fishermen.

Lazy hours on deck beside the plunge pool are combined with excursions ashore. Bicycles are stored on board, ready for a gentle peddle to a nearby country market. For longer journeys, private transport is on hand, complete with driver and a knowledgeable guide.

With a high crew-to-guest ratio, multi-lingual staff will pamper you and a personal guide will introduce you to renowned local vineyards, architecture and activities.

Whether your passion is food, history and architecture, cycling or golf, specific activities can be arranged as well as sightseeing trips to match your interests. Also, if you are in a large group, you can charter two or three vessels together (up to 22 guests).

Plus, when booking with us you enjoy all advantages we have with Belmond. See details here.

There's no such thing as gastronomic culture without wine.
